Main reason to redesign was because the tool used to take too much cross referencing
There was no spec beyond the existing tool, so a good part of the work was figuring out what Tear, Retraction, Atrophy, and F.I. actually measure for each muscle before touching the layout. What follows covers why the original screen was hard to use, how the new one is organized, the visual system that carries through every screen, and a direct comparison of the two.
Problem
One floating panel per category, disconnected from the anatomy they described.
The sidebar numbered them 1 through 4 , Like a four-step process. They weren’t steps. The four muscles each needed a value for all four categories, sixteen fields in total. The picker for each category lived in its own box, floating in a corner, and the only link back to a muscle was a small button on the anatomy diagram in the middle. Pick Tear under Infraspinatus, then find the Tear panel, then hope you’re reading the right one.

Every field now lives under the muscle it belongs to.
No cross-referencing, no floating panels. It also stopped waiting until the end to show you anything: choose a value and the anatomy view below updates right away, labeling that exact spot.

What changed
we made the regions as 4 columns 1 per muscle with the same four fields underneath each one , instead of having it on the image directly.

Before
- Category panels are gone. Each value now sits directly under the muscle it describes.
- Every severity reading uses the same bar shape now, no matter the category.
After
- There’s no more waiting on Generate result. The diagram updates the moment a field changes.
- The report adds a written explanation. It’s not just a list of what was selected anymore.
Reflection
What i learned
Match the form to how someone thinks, not to how the data is stored.
It’s tempting to organize a screen around whatever the database looks like, since that’s usually the simplest structure to build against. A clinician doesn’t think in categories, though. They think in shoulders, one muscle at a time.
